Malaga

A large city in the southern Spanish region of Andalucía, Malaga is situated along the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. Known for its temperate Mediterranean climate, laid back atmosphere, cathedral and as the birthplace of Picasso, Malaga is a popular destination for those seeking a more relaxing Spanish city than Madrid or Barcelona. Malaga is also located very close to the Straight of Gibraltar (the closest point in Europe to Africa and the cross-culture influences with Northern Africa and the Islamic world can be seen in Malaga. Alcazaba is one of the famous Moorish castles in Malaga. Malaga is also a popular destination for tourists looking for Mediterranean sunshine and lots of culture.

Although Malaga is lesser known than Spain’s other major cities of Barcelona and Madrid, Malaga is still an extremely popular tourist destination—attracting many visitors with its sunny climate, beaches, museums and cultural sites. Malaga also has a bustling nightlife, and you are sure to find fun nightlife raging in this city Thursday through Sunday. Especially popular are “botellodromos” at supermarkets in the city center where you can buy and drink alcohol before hitting the clubs.

If you are headed to Malaga hoping to catch some rays, hit the nightlife and explore the cities castles and cathedrals, you’ll probably want to spend the extra money to stay close to the city center. The Malaga Hotel is centrally located on Guadalmar Beach and features a swimming pool and garden. The Hotel del Pintor is located near the historic center of the city (and Picasso’s birthplace) and the Parador de Malaga Gibralfaro is often cited as one of the best hotels in Malaga.
