There is nothing quite like a beach vacation to perk up anyone’s mood, right? But often the beach vacations are the ones that seem like they would break the bank. The good news is that Mexico has lots of great beach destinations – and beach bargains as well. For example, although it is a popular beach resort town, you can still find cheap hotels in Cancun for your vacation.
Booking at least six months before your Cancun vacation will help you save money on your hotel, no matter how many stars are next to its name. Not everyone plans that far in advance, however! For you last-minute travelers, finding a cheap hotel in Cancun is going to be more about location, location, location. Generally speaking, you will pay more for hotels that are located right on the beach in Cancun – but if you do a bit of research and figure out which beaches are more popular, you can find hotels with lower rates on the less popular (and less crowded) beaches.
For even better deals on hotels in Cancun, however, try the areas that are a little further from the beach. Hotels in downtown Cancun especially are going to be cheaper for the most part, although the distance from the beaches means that you will either be walking every day to and from your sunbathing spot or you will be paying for taxi rides every day (depending on exactly how far you are from the beach, and how much walking you really want to do). Just remember to factor potential taxi fares into your vacation budget.
Some of the cheap hotels in Cancun to look into are the two Imperial hotels – Hotel Imperial Las Perlas and Hotel Imperial Laguna (the former is barely in the hotel zone, so very close to the beach and five minutes from downtown, and the latter is on the lagoon near the Convention Center), Caribe Internacional (in the heart of Cancun, 10 minutes from the beach), Maria de Lourdes Hotel (in downtown Cancun, 10 minutes from the beach), and Hotel Margaritas (also in downtown Cancun, with free shuttle to the hotel’s beach club).
