Goa

One of the most popular tourist destinations in all of India is the state of Goa – this is partly due to its beautiful beaches, partly to is history as a new age Mecca, and partly to its reputation as one of the easier parts of India for newcomers to handle. Whatever draws you to Goa, you can rest assured that because it has long been a popular vacation destination, there are accommodation options at both ends of the cost spectrum and plenty of cheap hotels in Goa right in the middle.

Depending on where you are coming from, you may find that Goa is particularly expensive as compared to other destinations within Asia, or you may think that the prices are still very low (especially when compared with vacation spots in Europe). Most things are more expensive in Goa than in other parts of India, but they are still relatively inexpensive compared to other vacation hotspots. Still, if you are really looking for bargain prices, you will want to note that even the cheap hotels in Goa get cheaper outside the high season (which is roughly November through March).

A former Portuguese colony, Goa retains many of its European influences. You will find Portuguese architecture throughout the region, not to mention Portuguese in the names of hotels and other tourist-oriented businesses. Even aside from the architectural sights, however, the beaches are the main draw in Goa. In addition to lying on the sand and soaking in the sun, you can engage in any number of water sports. And the area’s popularity with younger travelers and backpackers has led to the growth of the nightlife scene as well, so save some of your energy for after hours.

A few of the cheap hotels in Goa you should definitely look into are Montego Bay Beach Village (on Turtle Beach, log cabins and luxury tents in addition to regular hotel rooms, on-site restaurant, cooking classes, laundry service, bikes for hire, internet access available), Sussegado Nature Retreat (located on a traditional farm in a tropical garden, simple guesthouses on the property, bathrooms in a separate building), The Garça Branca (located in a family home, outdoor pool, three suite-style guest rooms, free transport to and from the airport available, private garden), and Cavala Seaside Resort (near Baga Beach, all rooms with balcony or terrace area, two outdoor pools, on-site restaurant).
