Lucerne

Lucerne is a charming little city in the heart of Switzerland, known for the magnificent Chapel Bridge. The Old Town is remarkably well preserved. Taking the world’s steepest cogwheel railway to the top of Mount Pilatus can be a real adventure. Lucrne is linked to the legend of William Tell (the apple & the boy). Tourism in Lucerne played an important part starting with the 19th century so be sure that cheap hotels in Lucerne are there waiting for you.

Most attractions are located within or close to the Old Town and Chapel Bridge. However, there are also incredible places to visit further from the city center. Mount Pilatus overlooks the city, offering incredible views. Several museums can also be visited, including the Swiss Transport Museum. As it happens in most cases, tourists would love to stay right in the center of all the activity. Being such a small town tough, it’s better to find cheap hotels in Lucerne located further from the center. Plus, there are buses which cover the entire city (and the suburbs).

Lucerne is filled with places to stay, ranging from hostels & inns to mid-range hotels and luxury ones. The basic hotels in the city center might seem quite expensive though. Another option is to stay in a hotel outside the city – either close to the mountain or in small towns near Lucerne – where you can find better prices.

Some of the budget options in and around Lucerne include: Hotel Alpha (5 min from the city center, clean but basic), Hotel Bellevue Luzern (3 stars, by the lake and Mt. Pilatus, spa, wellness center, private bath, TV) and Hotel-Restaurant Felmis (family run, located in Horw near Lucerne, 4 km from Lucerne city center, 30 rooms, private bath, TV).
