San Antonio

The city of San Antonio is not the biggest or most visited in the state of Texas, but it has lots of attractions to visit, including historic monuments and art museums. It is also a city with a great selection of restaurants and bars to satisfy any foodie. Though it may not be Texas’ top tourist destination, San Antonio is the home of the famous Alamo – so there will always be people coming to see the city. What this means for you is that you may need to search a bit to find a cheap hotel in San Antonio.

As disappointing as seeing the Alamo is for most people (it is much smaller in actual fact than it seems like it should be based on the story), it would be even more disappointing to spend too much on your stay when you could have found a cheap hotel in San Antonio, so be sure you plan ahead and shop around for bargains well in advance of your trip. This is especially true if you are trying to visit during one of the city’s annual events – from April’s Fiesta to June’s Texas Folklife Festival.

While you can sometimes find unexpected bargains or budget hotels right in the city center, you are more likely to find budget places that are not right in the middle of everything, so make sure you have transportation options to get where you want to go. Also keep in mind that some of San Antonio’s attractions are as much nighttime spots as they are popular during the day (the River Walk in particular falls into this category), so if your hotel is close to one of these places you may be in for a noisier night than you had planned. Be sure to ask your hotel for a quieter room if this is priority for you.

Among the budget hotels in downtown San Antonio, there are a few right around the River Walk – including the San Antonio River Walk Drury Plaza Hotel (in the restored Alamo Bank Building), the Hampton Inn San Antonio Downtown River Walk (walking distance to both the River Walk and the Alamo), and the Hawthorn Suites San Antonio Riverwalk Hotel (featuring studio suites that include mini fridges and microwaves). Among the properties which are located well outside the downtown area (making them only really reasonable if you have a car to get around) are the Quality Suites Northwoods and the Hill Country Inn & Suites at Salado Creek Villages.
