Berlin

Berlin is a big city, and one of those cities that has several what you could consider “city centers.” Because of this, there are several parts of the city in which you can find cheap hotels in Berlin. The important thing to know when you book your hotel is that it is close to some kind of public transportation – because you will need it to get everywhere you want to go.

The main areas of the city where you will find cheap hotels in Berlin include what is called the Berlin-Mitte and areas in the former East Berlin. Really, much of present-day Berlin was once part of East Berlin, considering so little of the city was actually in the West. There are more and more hotels popping up in different neighborhoods from the former East, including many in the budget hotel category.

In fact, the entire city of Berlin has been in a near-constant state of change since the wall came down – and by change, we also mean construction. It has been said that any guidebook to Berlin is almost instantly out of date because things are changing that rapidly, and that is not far from being true. This growth and change means that new hotel properties are popping up, as we mentioned, but it also could mean that neighborhoods that were once full of budget hotels have now gone luxe and the prices have risen. So double-check the rates on the hotels listed below to make sure they are still in the cheap hotels category.

Some hotels which are currently cheap hotels in Berlin and which are worth considering are Winter’s Hotel Berlin City Messe (134 rooms, some with private bath and some cheaper rooms with shared bath), Alsterhof Hotel (close to the famous Ku’damm, 200 rooms and suites), Alfa Hotel (not far from Tiergarten and Ku’damm), Econtel Berlin (a three-star hotel across a park from the Charlottenburg Castle), and the art’otel Berlin Mitte (109 rooms, cool modern decor, near Alexanderplatz and Reichstag).
