Detroit

Detroit is one of the biggest cities in the American midwest, famous for its longtime ties to the U.S. car industry and for the birthplace of Motown music. While it may not be the first place most people think of when they contemplate a city break in the U.S., it is a bustling metropolis with many things to offer anyone who likes cities. And staying in one of the cheap hotels in Detroit that is right in the city center will help you take advantage of all the city has to offer more easily.

As with any city of this size, Detroit has a huge range of accommodation options for you to choose from in just about every part of the city. Along the water you will find more of the high-end hotel options, but throughout downtown you can find plenty of cheap hotels in Detroit as well. Which is great news if you are hoping to stick to the city center with your sightseeing. Because without a city center hotel, you will probably need to rent a car for your stay.

Within downtown Detroit, you can rely on the city’s bus system and even an elevated rail line, but outside the city center the city sprawls in all directions and getting around without a car could prove problematic. Many of the main attractions in Detroit are in its downtown, but there are a few things that are beyond the traditional downtown borders. So if you want to see any of them, or if the cheap hotels in Detroit that you are considering are outside the city center, be sure to rent a car and get a good driving map of the city!

A few of the cheap hotels in Detroit that are worth looking into are Milner Hotel Detroit (downtown, free continental breakfast, free internet access, secure parking available, access to YMCA fitness room and pool for a fee), Hilton Garden Inn Detroit Downtown (downtown, 198 rooms, free internet & WiFi access, on-site bar & restaurant), Comfort Inn Downtown (downtown, 78 rooms, free continental breakfast, free WiFi access, free parking, free weekday newspapers, fitness room, on-site restaurant), Corktown Inn (in Corktown neighborhood downtown, family-run hotel, 150 rooms, some with kitchens, guest laundry facilities, WiFi available in lobby & some rooms, free parking), and DoubleTree Guest Suites Fort Shelby/Detroit Downtown (downtown, all suite-style rooms, 2 LCD TVs in each suite, internet and WiFi access, free WiFi in lobby and coffee shop, on-site news stand, fitness center).
