Vienna

Austria’s capital city of Vienna is not only the country’s biggest city, it is also one of the region’s biggest tourist draws as well. Once also the capital of the mighty Hapsburg Empire, visitors can now visit what is left of the opulent palaces and historic treasures, but the modern city is just as interesting – if not more so. The historic city center is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and staying either in the city center or nearby is really helpful to making your stay an enoyable one. The good news is that even near the city center, there are several cheap hotels in Vienna to choose from.

While there are probably enough options for cheap hotels in Vienna in and around the historic city center, during the high season even all those rooms may fill up fast – the city is extremely popular with foreign tourists in the summer months, and is also popular with other Austrians as a city break for long weekends. So when you find the hotel you want to stay in, you will want to book it well in advance to make sure you get the one you want. Do keep in mind, however, that if you have to stay a bit further from the center than you wanted to, the city is blessed with excellent public transportation to get you everywhere you need to go.

Vienna is a city of culture, with lots of fantastic museums, galleries and places to listen to music. From Austrian history to world-class works of art, Vienna’s museums have it covered. And do not think that just because the city is so closely tied to classical music that you cannot hear anything modern – in fact, dance clubs playing modern music are very popular. History buffs will enjoy the many sights related to the Hapsburgs, including castles and palaces in or near Vienna.

Some of the cheap hotels in Vienna you will want to consider for your stay are Hollmann Beletage (in the city center, boutique hotel, on-site restaurant, fitness center, sauna, internet & WiFi access available), Hotel Goldener Baer (in the city center, near tram & subway stops, free WiFi & internet access, breakfast included), Classic Hotel Wien (in the city center, 78 rooms, breakfast included, rooftop terrace with giant chess board, fitness center, sauna, some parking available), Tourotel Mariahilf (in the city center, 62 rooms, historic building dating back to the early 1700s), and Hotel Stadthalle (in the city center, boutique hotel, some eco-hotel elements, private garden, 44 individually designed rooms, some rooms with garden view, breakfast included).
