Budapest

Hungary’s capital city of Budapest is really two cities in one – the old cities of Buda and Pest having been combined many years ago. This bustling big city is easily one of the highlights of a trip to Hungary, with its gorgeous architecture and lovely views, not to mention beautiful city parks, excellent museums, and great nightlife. So it should not be surprising that there are lots of choices when it comes to accommodation – including plenty of cheap hotels in Budapest for you to select from.

The kind of experience you have in Budapest depends partly on where you are staying – and that means choosing from the cheap hotels in Budapest with an eye toward the neighborhoods the city is divided into. The most basic generalizations are the two sides of the river, but the three major neighborhoods to think about are Buda, Pest, and Castle Hill. Castle Hill is going to have the highest concentration of boutique and expensive accommodation options, and Pest is where you will find most of the super-cheap hostels.

While nearby Prague has traditionally gotten more of the press in the West, Budapest is definitely beyond “up and coming” status. This metropolis wins accolades for its beauty, and boasts the legendary Danube River running through the middle of it. And while many of the nearby capitals have increased their prices along with their popularity, Budapest remains refreshingly affordable to even backpackers. The sheer number of backpacker hostels is testament to the city’s ability to draw budget travelers.

Some of the cheap hotels in Budapest you should look into are Hotel Delibab (in Pest, 34 rooms, 4 rooms with balconies, not all rooms non-smoking, cable TV, free internet on main floor, parking available, free buffet breakfast), Radio Inn (in Pest, apartment hotel, 34 apartment-rooms, quiet residential neighborhood, buffet breakfast, private internal garden), Leo Panzio (in Pest, free buffet breakfast, air conditioning, laundry service available), Star City Hotel (in Pest, 48 rooms, free WiFi in lobby & most rooms, air conditioning, satellite TV, free buffet breakfast), and Baross City Hotel (in Pest, 5 minutes from historic downtown, 45 rooms, 2 apartments, air conditioning, satellite TV, internet access available, buffet breakfast available, laundry service available).
