San Diego

The southern California city of San Diego is known primarily for three things – its fantastic weather, its excellent beaches, and its proximity to Tijuana. Yes, there is more to San Diego than just this, but these are the main reasons most people visit. This city, although quite large, feels like a nice escape from the chaos of Los Angeles. Just make sure you book a cheap hotel in San Diego before you go.

Because the beaches are one of the city’s main attractions, the more expensive hotels tend to be along the beach and also downtown. The area known as Old Town tends to be where you will find more cheap hotels in San Diego, many of them parts of the big international hotel chains. However, you can find hotel bargains in just about any part of the city, you just have to be patient when you are looking.

While you might be heading to San Diego strictly for the warm weather and beautiful beaches, be sure to check out the city’s great green spaces, including Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. Nature lovers will also enjoy exploring the community of La Jolla, although you might need a little extra cash if you plan to stay in that area. San Diego’s Old Town is a pleasant historic district ideal for walking, dining and shopping.

No matter where you decide to call home during your vacation to San Diego, remember that hotel prices will go up dramatically during the busy summer travel season, so if you do not mind waiting for a deal you can often get better rates during the winter.

Some of the cheap hotels in San Diego you should look into include the Gaslamp Plaza Suites (downtown San Diego, free breakfast and WiFi, 5 miles from beach), Padre Trail Inn (100 rooms, boutique hotel, near Old Town, 5 minutes from Sea World), Holiday Inn Express Old Town (125 rooms, in the historic Old Town, 5 miles from downtown and Gaslamp Quarter), Comfort Inn Gaslamp (downtown San Diego, 103 rooms, all feature microwave and mini-fridge, free WiFi and breakfast), and the Western Inn (in Old Town, free breakfast and WiFi).
