Phoenix

Arizona’s capital city of Phoenix is not only the largest city in the state, it is also the largest city in the entire region and one of the largest in the country. It is one of those cities where the population swells in the winter as people from further north flee their cold weather and enjoy Phoenix’s temperate climate. Consequently, as summertime temperatures soar, you may find more cheap hotels in Phoenix because the weather can get simply unbearable.

The sheer size of the city means that there are cheap hotels in Phoenix scattered all over the place – and that (combined with the lack of adequate public transportation) means that getting around without a car is a near impossibility. It is important to figure out what you want to see and do in Phoenix, and then find a budget hotel that is close to at least most of what is on your list. For instance, downtown is where you will find many of the museums, sports arenas, and historic neighborhoods – while North Phoenix is closer to hiking areas.

Phoenix is surrounded by suburbs and more suburbs – it is the very definition of urban sprawl – so while you may think you are finding cheap hotels in Phoenix because they are listed as being in Phoenix, you need be sure you are not going to end up a long drive from everything you want to do and see without realizing it. Of course, as you are likely to have a rental car anyway, being further away from central Phoenix may not be a big deal to you. It is just not something you want to get surprised by.

A few of the cheap hotels in Phoenix worth considering are Hyatt Place Phoenix North (just north of downtown, free shuttle to destinations within five miles of hotel, fitness center, free WiFi, free continental breakfast), Embassy Suites Phoenix Biltmore (in the upscale Biltmore area, close to airport, WiFi available, free breakfast, fitness center, pool), Wyndham Phoenix (in downtown Phoenix, walking distance from Convention Center, free internet available, kids stay free, 532 rooms), SpringHill Suites Phoenix Downtown (in downtown Phoenix, walking distance from Convention Center, close to airport, free airport shuttle, free internet available, free breakfast, fitness center, pool), and Ramada Plaza Phoenix at Metrocenter (near MetroCenter Mall, 170 rooms, free WiFi, free breakfast, on-site restaurant).
