Portland

While the city of Portland may not seem like the tourism draw that its neighbors to the north and south (Seattle and San Francisco) do, Oregon’s largest city still appeals to enough vacationers each year that you will find plenty of things to do and see. Of course, most of the area attractions appeal to locals as much as visitors, but that is one of the charms of the city. It makes an effort to please itself and its residents, and if other people like it that is just a bonus. You will be pleased to know, however, that there are lots of cheap hotels in Portland for you to stay in.

Although there are things to see and do spread out all over the city, it is probably best for visitors to try to stay in one of the cheap hotels in Portland that is either right downtown, close to downtown, or on a public transit line that can get you downtown. Depending on what you are planning to do while you are in the city, you may be able to get away without renting a car – which certainly helps you save money on your vacation.

Downtown Portland offers visitors a plethora of great shops and restaurants to enjoy, but even beyond that there are some nice parks right in the downtown area that you can explore without driving anywhere. There is even a classical Chinese garden in Old Town that is a delight, even though it is only the size of one block. If you do want to explore a bit outside the city center, Washington Park has several nice gardens – including the city’s rose garden and Japanese garden.

A few of the cheap hotels in Portland you may want to consider are Jupiter Hotel (on the east side of the river, near bus lines, hip hotel with adjoining bar & music club), Marriott Portland City Center (downtown, 2 blocks from light rail station, 249 rooms, fitness center, indoor whirlpool spa, on-site restaurant & cocktail lounge, internet access available, laundry facilities), Park Lane Suites (near Washington Park, all-suites hotel, free continental breakfast, free parking, free internet access), Ace Hotel Portland (downtown, 79 rooms, on-site Stumptown coffee shop, free WiFi & internet access, old photo booth in the lobby, bikes for rent, every room is unique & many have wall murals painted by local artists, some private & some shared bathrooms, pet friendly hotel), and Thriftlodge Portland Central (near convention center & Lloyd Mall, free WiFi internet access, free parking).
