Austin

While Austin is the capital city of Texas and a great tourist destination in its own right, it is not the biggest city in the state or even the most popular Texas city to visit. But its reputation as a quirky city with a well-established local music scene has drawn a different sort of person from what you might otherwise expect in Texas. This is a city that embraces the “Keep Austin Weird” slogan as well as its counter-culture population, despite being the center of the state’s government. There is plenty to see and do, as well, and lots of cheap hotels in Austin for you to choose from.

Austin is a great place to visit year-round, but it is absolutely most popular during its festivals. The best known by far is the South by Southwest music festival, during which all the cheap hotels in Austin – as well as hotels in every other price range – are bound to be booked up well in advance. So if you are planning a visit during SXSW or any other local festival, be sure you arrange for your hotel room with plenty of time to spare so you can avoid paying too much for your accommodation.

Another reason you would want to book your cheap hotels in Austin well in advance is if you want to be sure you are staying downtown. This is not a tiny town, and it is also not a massive city on the scale of Houston – but it is always more enjoyable to stay in a hotel that is centrally located to the things you want to see and do. That way, you will be able to walk to most sights. There is a good bus network if you need to get further out of town, however, so keep that in mind.

Some of the cheap hotels in Austin which you may want to look into for your trip are Radisson Hotel & Suites Austin Town Lake (right on the lake in downtown Austin, 413 rooms, on-site restaurant, fitness center, outdoor pool, internet access available), Austin Motel (in downtown Austin just south of the river, 41 rooms, funky 1950s style motel, outdoor pool, family-run), La Quinta Inn Austin Capitol (in downtown Austin near capitol building, 150 rooms, free internet access, free continental breakfast, outdoor pool, fitness center, pets welcome, paid parking available), Holiday Inn Austin Town Lake (on the lake, 320 rooms, on-site restaurant, free WiFi access, free guest parking, fitness center), and Clarion Inn & Suites Conference Center (in the Travis Heights neighborhood, 2 miles from capitol building, free continental breakfast, free WiFi & internet access, free parking, on-site restaurant, outdoor pool, laundry facilities, pets welcome).
