While the English weather may not always be sunny and warm, the English coastline is still dotted with plenty of old spa resort towns, including the Victorian town of Scarborough in North Yorkshire. (And if you do not have the song “Scarborough Fair” running through your head by now, you are a stronger person than we are.) It is not a large town, although it is the largest in the area, and its popularity as a spa resort dates back to the mid-1600s – so there are plenty of cheap hotels in Scarborough, in addition to big resort hotels.

One of the more famous local hotels is the Grand Hotel, opened in the 1860s and the building in which novelist Anne Bronte died. Her grave is also in the town.
