Southern California is not lacking for tourist destination hotspots, but perhaps one of its more popular destinations – if for no other reason than it is usually crawling with the celebrities who live there – is Palm Springs. It is a resort city in almost every sense of the word, with lots of golf courses and swimming pools, and there are (of course) plenty of high end luxury hotels as well. But because this is a vacation destination for more than just the rich and famous, you will also find a good number of cheap hotels in Palm Springs, too.

Palm Springs is not only popular with Hollywood celebrities (one of whom even served as the city’s mayor), the city gets inundated each Spring Break by students (mainly those from the west coast), when both the expensive and the cheap hotels in Palm Springs get booked up months in advance. Also, those unfamiliar with the area should keep in mind that this city is quite popular with nudists as well – so be sure the great hotel deal you just found is not a room in a nudist resort (unless you want it to be, of course). That could be quite a surprise at the pool.

As mentioned, Palm Springs is a haven for golf enthusiasts – the area is littered with golf courses. But if there are other family members who can think of better ways to spend a day (or if even you get tired of golf after awhile), there are a few casinos which could provide a fun diversion, great hiking opportunities just outside the city (some of which are around sacred Native American sites only recently opened to the public), a couple of nice museums, and two film festivals (one in January, one in August) which are some of the best film festivals held in the U.S.

Some of the cheap hotels in Palm Springs worth looking into are Motel 6 Palm Springs Downtown (near the Convention Center, WiFi available for a fee, outdoor hot tub & heated pool, coin laundry available), Palm Court Inn (one mile from downtown, 107 rooms, outdoor pool, all rooms feature private balconies or patios, on-site restaurant, fitness center, continental breakfast included), Courtyard Palm Springs (137 rooms, free shuttle to Palm Springs Airport, close to downtown attractions, free on-site parking, internet access available), El Rancho Lodge (20 rooms, heated outdoor pool, outdoor jacuzzi spa pool, free continental breakfast, laundry facilities), and Motel 6 East-E Palm Canyon (2.5 miles from downtown Palm Springs, WiFi available for a fee, outdoor pool, coin laundry available).
