Located in the heart of America’s heartland, Omaha is the largest city in Nebraska. Located on the Missouri River near the border with Iowa, Omaha is unique in that it unsuspectingly has the highest number of millionaires per capita. While this city is on the smaller side and lacks many well known attractions, it is nonetheless home to a few interesting sites.

Those interested in the history and/or the civil right movement may be interested in checking out the Malcolm X birthplace located in North Omaha. While the actual home is no longer standing, there is a marker on his former address. You can also visit the Mormon Trail Center and learn more about the route the Mormons took on their way to Utah or check out the Joslyn castle, which is a Scottish Baronial style home that once served as the home for Omaha’s first prominent residents.

Omaha also has many great parks for those interested in spending time outdoors during their trip. The Heartland Park of America is located in Omaha and features a fountain that shoots water 300 feet into the air as well as boasting a colorful nighttime show.

Like any other metropolitan area in the U.S., Omaha is home to a variety of your standard hotel and motel options, like the Best Western Settle Inn or the Omaha Marriott. Those looking for a bit of a higher end hotel can head to the Magnolia Hotel, which is located downtown and features stylish rooms in a great location.
