Minorca is the second largest of the Balearic Islands and still not overrun by tourists. As opposed to the more famous Mallorca, Minorca is more tranquil and laid back and allows for more adventurous vacations. You’ll be surprised to know that Minorca boasts more beaches than Mallorca and Ibiza combined. Due to its popularity, finding cheap hotels in Minorca can be little tricky, but not that hard.

There are plenty of accommodations to choose from on the island, from private villas to luxury resorts. Package deals are available for those who fancy those, but there are plenty of 1 or 2 star cheap hotels in Minorca which offer good services and don’t force the traveler to book a package.

The capital city is Mahon (Mao), known for its restaurants and bars. The south coast is dotted with resorts. Although the beaches and the island’s natural beauty are the main reasons tourists flock here, you can do plenty of other things. You can visit a gin distillery, the museum located within a 15th century monastery or the fortress.

Keep in mind that although the tourist season runs between April and October, most Europeans take their summer holiday in July and August. That’s the peak season when everything costs more, including the accommodation. Your best bet to find cheap hotels in Minorca is to look for hotels located further from the beach or the center of the capital city. Outside the high season, you can find better deals but the flights into the island are limited.
