Often dubbed “Hub City”, Lubbock is the largest city in the Panhandle region of Texas and is located at the center of the South Plains, a huge cotton-growing region. Lubbock is also home to Texas Tech University, whose campus and student population have largely influenced this Texas plains city.

While it may not be the home of famous monuments of museums, there is plenty to do for visitors to Lubbock. The city operates a large number of parks and lakes throughout the city, making it easy to find green space to hang out in this city about quarter million people.

While you may not think of the Texas plains as a center of viticulture, Lubbock is actually home to a growing number of wineries, including the Cap Rock Winery, which recently won several awards for their Texas vino. The Llan Estacado Winery, which started as an experiment by Texas Tech biologists, is now as successful, self-sufficient winery that offers tours and tastings.

History buffs can also enjoy Lubbock for its important historical role in several different arenas. Buddy Holly (often called the father of Rock n Roll) was born and raised in Lubbock and today rock n roll fans can visit the Buddy Holly Center, which is distinguished by the giant replica of Holly’s trademark glasses, and learn more about music history, local Texas artists and more. Lubbock was also the center of training for glider pilots during WWII and glider or plane enthusiasts can check out the Silent Wings Museum, which is located in the formerly abandoned Lubbock Regional Airport.

There are a a variety of accommodation options in Lubbock, with many of the familiar chain hotels located in the city. Those looking for something safe and familiar can opt for the Best Western Lubbock Windsor Inn or the
Holiday Inn . There is also a Motel 6 for those looking to save a few bucks and Residence Inn for those wanting a little more elbow room during their stay.
