Ireland’s Medieval capital, Kilkenny is located on the “sunny” south east end of Ireland. Offering a mixture of beautiful street scapes, the Kilkenny castle, great shopping, exciting nightlife (did someone say pub culture?), Kilkenny has long been a popular destination in Ireland. Although Kilkenny’s history dates back before the 6th century, this city has become an increasingly popular weekend getaway fro Irish nationals, which has in turn created a bustling and vibrant nightlife scene.

With a rich cultural history, there are many interesting Medieval sites concentrated in a small area in Kilkenny. The Kilkenny castle and gardens is the dominant feature of this city and is the most visited site, though the beautiful stained glass windows at Black Abbey and the history museum in the historic Rothe house are also worthwhile.

Kilkenny plays host to a major concert in the local stadium, where big names like Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton and Rod Stewart have played in the past. However, most visitors to Kilkenny will spend at least some time out at the bars taking in a good pint and soaking up some of the local Irish boozing culture.

Kilkenny is a small city, making it easy to stay within stumbling distance of the many popular pubs. The Kilkenny Inn is located right at the heart of the historic city center, giving visitors a great home base to explore this city. The Pembroke Hotel will do a little more damage to your pocketbook, but offers luxury and comfort with views of the Kilkenny castle. If you are looking to save your dollars for beers, the Newland Lodge is a cozy bed and breakfast that won’t break the bank.
